And of course no one I ask seems to know what's going on. Two ladies inform me that the “beeping noise has been going on since 4:00pm, and if it was a fire the building would have burned down by now so they decided not to investigate or call anyone.” It’s now 10pm, and apparently everyone decided to go about their business. I'm glad everyone was so concerned. I mean someone might only have died or been burned alive no big deal. So after contacting my useless landlord, whose lack of concern was no surprise, I called the fire department, and in less than a minute the entire fire brigade had arrived. My landlord, seeing the fire trucks began running around in a panic, so I led the firemen to the back of the building to located the source of the beeping, which turned out to be a smoke alarm that some brainless moron had pitched into a nearby dumpster. After finding it one of the firemen proceeded to pound the smoke alarm with this wooden, pike-like stick he was carrying. He was smacking it for about a minute with no luck. I suggested he simply remove the unit's battery. Although I guess he didn't hear me since he continued to whale on it until it was finally silent. All in all another adventure filled night. I suspect my landlord was rather pissed at me for calling the fire department, but I was only trying to make sure the building wasn’t on fire! A nuisance I know.

<table style="border-style: solid; Awesome. Actually this is far from it. Now I've always been on the fence when it come to Spielberg's work. On the one hand there's films, such as Raiders Of the Lost Arc, Saving Private Ryan, Amistad, Schindler's List, Munich, Jaws, etc, that are incredible films. While on the other hand you have A.I., 1941, War of the Worlds, etc, which make me cry. But I've always respected Spielberg as a true visionary, however I'm just so sick of crap like American Idol, America's Next Top Model, The Apprentice, and a whole slew of others, and now Spielberg wants to contribute! Awesome. One could hope that this new show is anywhere near as good as the now defunked Project Greenlight, but from reading the article below I highly doubt it.

LINK

My Big Mouth and Big Blue

So last week was a rather rough one. I figured that between working at Avenue and BB I worked something like sixty-seven hours, which made me incredible irritable working Saturday at BB. So over the course of the night I managed to get into a rather stupid argument with my supervisor, which refused to die quietly even after everything was said and done. I was actually in the wrong, but I was in too pissy a mood to admit it. So naturally today I went in to get next week's schedule, and low and behold my hours were drastically cut back to twelve. Now I'm not sure if this is retaliation from my super, but it sure seems like a rather transparent stunt to me. Yes, I probably deserved it, but if this is payback then that's really childish, and I wish we could just hash this out like grown men, and not children. Oh well, just another day of complete and utter bullshit with Big Blue.

The Colbert Report

Hey Steven Colbert mentioned the Wiener Circle in Chicago on tonight's The Colbert Report! Sony lost their patent case, which means they'll have to yank any and all PS 2s, and possible PS 1s from the store shelves. Plus pay a shit-load of money to the company that owns the original patent rights. This news comes at a time when people are flipping out over news that the PS 3 wouldn't be arriving until November, and news of scarce supples as well. It looks like Sony's going to have to rely on there PSP, and it's lackluster game selection to make any profit this holiday season. And both times I was amazed at how many people were flocking to it. Now I'm not one to knock Apple as you well know, but I'm no Apple zealot either, and this new product speaks volume about Apple's ability to use name branding and hype to overshadow functionality. Take the Ipod for instants, Creative Labs and even I-river have similar products that have superior battery life, built in radios, and even on some models video and audio outputs. However, the Ipod out sells those units ten to one almost everytime. Now one could argue that the Ipod is easier to use than the other named MP3 players, and they wouldn't be wrong. But I'd argued that ease of use has nothing to do with the Ipod's success, but rather Apple's design and marketing ability, which brands customers to their products for life regardless if they're good or bad. Apple is so good at getting customers excited for their products that they could sell an Apple Clothing Line, which would be popular I'm sure. Their nack for design doesn't hurt them either. So back to the Hi-Fi, the unit's design is bland and bulky. The sound quality can't touch most home steros systems, and even in some cases doesn't blow away other sound docks, namely the Boses or Klipsch ones. But no matter how dumb I think this new product is I'm sure it's gonna sell through the roof, because owning the newest Apple products is the new dick wagging. And until Apple's competitors learn to better market or design their products Apple will continue to have a major impact on all things electronic, which isn't a bad thing just something I was contemplating.

F@*! I'm talking about twenty five - forty hours, cut back to five - fifteen hours. Back in early November I was assured the hours would pick up for the holiday period. I tinkered with the idea of getting another part-time job, but figured hours would increase with the store's traffic. And they did for a few weeks. January came, and everyone lost their hours again. It turns out the managers over spent the store's budget by over staffing the store during a slow holiday period. The economy anyone? The next two months worth of the hourly budget were shot. To explain how the budgeting works one basically figures the costs of having a staffed, heated and powered store compared to the day's estimated customer traffic, in case you were wondering. In short no hours for anyone unless someone goes home or is fired. Fast forward to today , and after two months of promised hour increases it looks like the hours aren't coming back anytime soon. The reason? No one knows! I can only guess the idiots that be (the managers) really have no idea how to run the store. So as of this Sunday I will once again be looking for a new job, because I'm tired of dealing with BB and their shit. Hopefully other companies employee capable individuals that know how to run a business efficiently. Well here's to hoping...

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://the-trials.blogspot.com/2006/03/f-best-buy.html' title='F@*!
